There are many attractive career options open to researchers who hold a doctoral degree: they may strive for a career in academia, responsible positions in research and development, administration and management or seek to pursue a career in business or politics.
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) supports early career researchers in planning their career and helps them make the transition into work through comprehensive information, advice and qualification offers. In April 2016, for instance, the project Career Perspectives for Postdocs was launched. This project’s goal is to support young researchers in making important career decisions and developing their professional profile accordingly. In addition to academic career options, the project also looks at alternative career paths.
Complementing this offering, the program En route into Science provides support for academic career planning at universities, but also at non-university research institutions or in business and industry. It is oriented toward changing qualification and career paths that lead to remaining in the science system without achieving a "classic" professorship.
JGU offers an attractive work environment to researchers and teachers as well as all staff members and makes constant endeavours to improve its academics’ working conditions.
