Teaching

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) considers research and teaching as a university’s equally important core responsibilities. This has been reflected by several structural developments over the past years as well as a multitude of measures taken in particular to adjust the status of teaching within the university to this self-concept, promote teaching quality and identify new challenges.

Where the pursuit of a doctorate is combined with an employment as research associate, doctoral candidates can gain their first experiences in university teaching within this context – by teaching individual classes and/or seminars. As regards postgraduates without employment at JGU, the university may, in individual cases, give teaching assignments to these candidates. These assignments are usually limited to the duration of one semester and paid on a fee basis.
