Continuing Education & Qualification

Different institutions at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) offer continuing education and qualification measures to acquire skills beyond individual disciplines:

Writing Workshops (Campusweite Schreibwerkstatt)
The JGU Writingcenter ("Campusweite Schreibwerkstatt") offers workshops to support teachers in integrating measures into their teaching and supervision which are suitable to teach scientific writing and academic integrity as well as collecting and deepening technical contents.

Career Perspectives for Postdocs
The project that is run by the Personnel Development Department assists postdocs in making decisions related to their careers. It also helps them expand their professional profiles beyond careers in academia. Not only can postdocs profit from their information and orientation offers, they can also make use of individual consultation and coaching services.

En route into science
The program En route into science offered by the Center for Quality Assurance and Development (ZQ) gives researchers insights into relevant tasks, challenges and responsibilities that come with a professorship as well as other academic and non-academic leadership positions. Moreover, it offers further training and individual educational opportunities with respect to other selected issues and subjects.

Internal University Continuing Education (in German only)
The Internal University Continuing Education is a training and educational opportunities program focusing on leaders in academic management, administration and academia at nine universities in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Saarland. The program includes events on subjects like change competence for leaders, leadership in transformation, knowledge transfer, successful cooperation, lateral leadership etc.

Leadership development program (in German only)
JGU offers its leaders and future leaders in science and research, academic management and administration support in form of a development program. It focuses on challenges of leadership positions.

Methodological workshops of ZSBH (in German only)
The methodological workshops of the "Zentrum für Schul-, Bildungs- und Hochschulforschung" (ZSBH) offer introductions to and courses on the practical application of research methods to all research associates, doctoral candidates and postdocs irrespective of their discipline.

Program for Young Female Academics (ProWeWin) (in German only)
The ProWeWin program addresses young female researchers who are in their advanced doctoral phase and female postdocs. The workshops are open to all disciplines and are developed in a way to promote the acquisition of research-related key qualifications according to different target groups.

Rhetoric and Didactics in teaching medicine
The focus of this seminar is on practicing rhetoric and didactics, as well as an exchange of experiences between postdoctoral lecturers. The postdoctoral lecturing qualification regulations of the faculty for Medicine require attendance at this seminar for a successful habilitation.

Staff training on the subject Science and Research (in German only)
The staff training event Science and Research offers training and educational courses on German and international research funding programs and raising third party funding. The courses and workshops address in particular postdoctoral researchers.

University Didactics Offer (in German only)
The University didactics courses offered by the Evaluation Association of Institutes of Higher Education (Hochschulevaluierungsverbundes Südwest e.V.) are open to all lecturers at JGU. These workshops aim at teaching and deepening basic teaching skills and offer intensive individual advisory services (coaching). The qualification program can end with the Rhineland-Palatinate-Certificate.

WissKomm Academy

The WissKomm Academy focuses on the topic of science communication, highlighting different aspects. Among other things, the WissKomm Academy offers a certified seminar for researchers of all career levels and subjects working at a scientific institution in Rhineland-Palatinate to strengthen skills and competencies in the field of science communication.
