Master Student Classes & Concert Exam

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) offers artistic postgraduate study programs to train excellent artists: the Master Student Classes at the Mainz Academy of Arts and the Concert Exam at the Mainz School of Music.

Master Student Classes at the Mainz Academy of Arts

The Master Student Classes at the Mainz Academy of Arts enable extraordinarily gifted graduates of a study program in Fine Arts, Fine Arts Teacher Training (for secondary schools) or an equivalent studies program to deepen, develop further and present to the public their art work in collaboration with distinguished art professors. The studies take place in an arts master class and usually take two semesters. At the end of the program, the master student’s art work is presented in a public exhibition which constitutes the final examination.

Concert Exam at the Mainz School of Music

The postgraduate Concert Exam courses are intended to help students to further improve and perfect their technical and artistic skills so as to reach concert performance level. The program is supervised by renowned professors and represents the highest artistic qualification. It focuses on graduates who have completed their musical studies (Diploma, Master or equivalent degree program) with “very good” and takes four semesters. Graduates can enter this program of study either following their prior studies or as extra occupational education. The Concert Exam program is offered in two forms, the Concert Exam Voice for vocalists and the Concert Exam (instrumental) for instrumentalists. The final exam consists of three parts, including one public concert.
