Conference and Travel Funding: General Information

Internal University Research Funding
Within the funding line, doctoral candidates at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) who do not participate in a structured doctoral program receive funding for their active participation in a scientific conference. The Research and Technology Transfer staff unit is in charge of administering this promotion scheme and applications have to be submitted thereto.

Research Unit Historical Cultural Sciences (in German only)
Members of the research unit can apply for travel and conference funds. Applications must show a clear historical-cultural sciences reference and a distinctly theoretical-methodological foundation.

Conference and Travel Funding: Discipline-specific Information

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds
With its Travel Grants, the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds promotes junior researchers who wish to pursue an experimental project in basic biomedical research. The Foundation supports research stays in another laboratory or the attendance of practical courses.

Advancement of women Faculty 01 (Faculty of Catholic Theology) (in German only)
This program offers to cover costs of up to EUR 1.000 (justified exceptions are possible) for measures serving the academic progress of the female applicants, such as travels to conferences, conventions, workshops, congresses (including participation fees) as well as research stays abroad and archive research (on-site or online fees).

Women’s advancement funds Faculty 03 (in German only)
Female students, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and junior professors who are members of Faculty 03 are eligible to apply. Attending national as well as international conferences is supported (subject to a cap). In order to receive support for research travels and stays, congresses and workshops, official proof has to be submitted.

Women’s Grant Fund Faculty 05
Within the framework of this program, women may apply for financial support to participate in national and international congresses (subject to a cap). All young female researchers who are members of Faculty 05 are eligible to apply, provided they only hold a student assistant position or half a position (part time) as research associate.

Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants
Once a year, supported by the Peters Beer Foundation as well as the Marga und Kurt Möllgaard Foundation, both part of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, the Max Weber Foundation (MWS) confers Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants to young academics (humanities and social sciences) with an international focus. The next deadline for applications is 9 October 2020.

Equal opportunities advancement Faculty 10 (in German only)
Female doctoral candidates at the Faculty of Biology have the opportunity to apply for funding to attend conferences. The funding per candidate amounts to a maximum of EUR 2.000 total and EUR 1.000 per year and a maximum of 90 percent of the sum indicated in the application.

Conference Funding: Organization of Events

Funding for events for doctoral candidates by doctoral candidates

If groups of doctoral candidates wish to jointly realize academic conferences or workshops, or organize events for other doctoral candidates on academic and professional perspectives, they can apply for a grant. (contact: Dr. Amelie Scheu, Internal University research funding, "Stufe I")
